Device requirements
Usually, we recommend that you first try out your device before starting to use Handy, so you can get a general sense of how the device works and how to use it.
We hope these recommendations help you make a more informed decision on which device might work best for you when using Handy:
Esperamos que estas recomendaciones te ayuden a tomar la mejor decisión.
🤖 Android version
Any Android device running Android version 8 (Oreo) or later will be compatible with Handy. Older Android versions will not allow you to install the Handy app.
Version 8 is old (2017), Android is currently on version 16 (2025), so you'll have no problem finding Android devices that support Handy.
We don't recommend devices with Android version Go (Android Go Edition). This version is usually found in entry-level devices, which we don't recommend for our purposes. Handy can run on Android Go, but the device's simplicity can limit its features.
📱 Brands
We don't recommend these brands:
- Xiaomi: These devices have strict battery usage limitations, which affect the user experience
- Alcatel: They're usually entry-level devices and tend to be very slow
- Lanix: Many of this brand's devices have no built-in GPS, which wouldn't allow for some of Handy's most important features to work
- TCL: These devices also have. very strict battery usage limitations
🛰 Built-In GPS
It's essential for the device to have built-in GPS. If it doesn't have it, Play Store will recognize the device as incompatible with Handy.
There are very simple devices that run on Android Go, a simplified version of Android, and don't have built-in GPS, like the Lanix X120C.
📶 Data
If your devices will be used extensively for taking pictures and capturing signatures, we recommend choosing one that supports 4G/LTE so you can upload information real-time.
Even though the Handy app can operate without an internet connection, we don't recommend using devices without a cellular data plan, as many of Handy's features will be limited (real time location tracking, communicating results instantly, etc), and the user experience may be diminished.
The Handy app's data consumption is very low. The app is designed and optimized to consume a maximum of 2 GB per month (with extensive use, uploading hundreds of images, forms, visits, etc.).
The offline functionality of the app is mainly designed for temporary visits in places with little to no connection. We strongly recommend having an active cellular data plan for your devices to make the most out of the app and get the best experience.
⚙️ RAM
The minimum RAM on your device can be as little as 1GB, but we recommend at least 2GB to improve performance. Even entry-level devices can support this, but, as previously mentioned, they are not recommended for using the Handy app.
✅ Verifying availability
Would you like to know if a certain device will be compatible with Handy? Send us a message in the chat and we'll help you verify its compatibility.
🔴 Important information on TCL and Xiaomi devices
TCL, and Xiaomi devices have a limitation that automatically closes apps open in the background to save battery, but these limitations are very strict. This makes the device silence push notifications and not allow tracking to work, which is why we DON'T RECOMMEND these brands. Good news is, there's a way to fix this.
Xiaomi
In Xiaomi, in the Settings app, go to Apps, then Manage Apps, then Permissions, and click on Autostart:
