Device tests before using Handy

Handy is compatible with any Android device, but you'll need to run some tests to ensure all the device's features work well with the Handy app.

To do this, we'll need to log in to the Handy app and to the web portal as the company administrator to see the movements made by the mobile user.

GPS:

  1. Check on Google Maps that the device's location shown on the map is correct and matches your current location. If it doesn't match, this could mean that there is an issue with the device's GPS services.
  2. Make sure you're logged in to the Handy app on your device. Through the web portal, log in as the company administrator and search for the user who logged in to the app by clicking on "Users". There, select the user, and you should be able to see the user's real-time location. If you can't see the user's location in the web portal, this could indicate a problem with the device's GPS services, or it could also mean the device has some restrictions on which apps can access GPS data.
  3. Conduct a field test. Go outside and complete a short trip (20 minutes is enough), taking the device with you. Keep the device resting (lock the screen), and when you get back, click on Sync. In the web portal, you should be able to see some location points along the route you took. With this test, we can make sure that the device can register your location without the need to have the app open and running all the time. If this doesn't work, this could mean that the device isn't allowing the Handy app to run in the background.

Network:

  1. We don't recommend using Handy on devices with network access below 4 G. Even though Handy can function without connection to the internet, it still needs to sync with the web portal, and having a poor connection can make location tracking and other features slower and inaccurate.
  2. We also don't recommend using Handy on devices without a data plan. Handy is able to work without a connection, but only for short periods of time when the user visits an area with poor connection, not for long-term use without a connection. Please use Handy on devices with a good data plan to make the most out of the app and its features.

Device data processing:

  1. Handy can work on very simple devices, as well as more complex ones. However, we don't recommend using devices that are too simple, as they can have very little RAM available for the device's apps. This causes apps to stop working or perform poorly. You can test for this by leaving the Handy app open and running other apps in the background for a while. The device shouldn't heat up or slow down. If it does, this could indicate an issue with the device's memory.

Camera:

  1. Make sure to test for your device's camera focus. Try taking a picture of words on a piece of paper, and if the device isn't able to autofocus or take a decent picture, it will have trouble reading bar codes or QR codes in the future.

Google services:

  1. Handy uses Google services (as all Android devices do) to obtain GPS information as well as other important data. The device you're using must be able to work with Google services and update to the latest version without any problem.

Even after these tests, Handy doesn't hold itself responsible for external factors that might limit the app's functionality. Factors like: device features limiting apps running in the background, energy saving features, GPS limiting features, etc.

Some devices from brands like Huawei and Xiaomi have these features as the default, which is why we don't recommend them for using the Handy app.

We hope these tests were useful, and make sure to send us a message in the chat if you have any questions!
