Product families and categories

Your product catalog can contain as many items as there are SKUs managed by your company. To simplify the use of your product catalog, we provide you with two more options to group or filter them as needed.

Every product must belong to a product Family, but the Category is optional, and you can decide not to use it if it's of no value to you.

Let's see an example of how to use these two grouping tools.

If I own a convenience store:

I use the concept of Family to group my products as follows:

  • Cleaning supplies
  • Snacks and beverages
  • Personal care
  • Etc.

And I use the concept of Category to group together the products in a Family as follows:

For the Family of cleaning supplies, my Categories are:

  • All-purpose cleaners
  • Disinfectants
  • Glass cleaner
  • Etc.

For the Family of snacks and beverages, my Categories are:

  • Sodas and juices
  • Candies and sweets
  • Cookies and biscuits
  • Etc.

Even though there's no direct relationship between Families and Categories, there is a natural relationship between them, as Categories only make sense within their Family.

In the different views and reports involving products, you can filter the information by Family and/or Category. This allows you to analyze the movement of your products individually, and make decisions based on the performance of different Families and Categories or individual products.

For example, in the Product Activity report, you can filter by Family, Category, or show all:

When exporting the report's information, the different organizers will be included to simplify the analysis of information.
